The initial half-hour consultation is at a reduced rate, no more than $20. At the end of that half-hour, more time will be available if the parties wish to begin mediation. Both parties will meet together with the mediator and begin the process. There may be individual sessions (caucus sessions) with the mediator when appropriate. Scheduling is at the convenience of the parties and may include evening and weekend sessions. Most sessions are two to three hours long. The clients meet with the mediator for as many sessions as it takes to work through the issues and reach an agreement. The mediator writes up the agreement in draft form and reviews it with the parties prior to giving each client a final copy. Each party is free, and encouraged, to retain an attorney's advice, before, during and after the mediation process. The best mediation results are achieved in conjunction with quality legal advice and representation.
